Can You Get Comfortable With Discomfort?
When we are in the process of changing our lives to improve our health, our relationships, or our careers we will face discomfort because we changing the trajectory of our lives and moving in a new direction.
Understanding how to deal with discomfort is important to achieving goals that are important to us. Avoiding change is normal and works to diminish the discomfort for a short time, but eventually the dissatisfaction with our lives will catch up to us.
Here are three things to think about as you try to push through discomfort when making a life change.
1. Motivation. What is motivating you to change? Is your motivation for changing greater than maintaining the status quo?
2. Strategy. Do you have an effective strategy for making the change? Has this strategy worked for other people? Can you implement the strategy and make incremental changes if needed?
3. Support. Do you have a good support system? Enlisting other people to join you in this process with give you a greater chance of achieving your goals. Support people can provide encouragement, insight, and feedback that is critical to creating lasting life change.
